Ottawa StoryTellers invites you to celebrate

World Storytelling Day - March 20, 2011!  Celebrate Storytelling, and Bring a Friend!

As a part of OST's activities in the community-centered programming year, OST would like to let you know about a special event planned for World Storytelling Day (WSD) at the Library and Archives. Planning is still underway, but the idea is to invite our members and supporters to come and celebrate storytelling and bring a friend. The evening will consist of a 1 hour storytelling concert and a finger food potluck, running from around 4pm-7pm.

Our intention is to represent a variety of different tellers at a variety of different levels. We're looking for 4-5 volunteer tellers, with stories that come in under 8 minutes and fit with the idea of world storytelling and community. If you are interested in telling, please email mad@ottawastorytellers.ca and the committee will consider you when programming the concert.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with the potluck and cleanup at the end of the evening. If you are interested in helping with the potluck, please email Mary Wiggin at mary.wiggin@sympatico.ca, or mad@ottawastorytellers.ca for other volunteering jobs.

The other aspect to our celebration is a request that our local tellers go out into their communities and tell in the month leading up to WSD. This could be anything from telling to a class at a local school to telling at a community centre or senior centre to telling at your local book club. The idea is to raise awareness about storytelling and the purposes it can serve in the wider community. At the WSD event, we will have a map of Ottawa and a box of pins, and we will encourage everyone to mark their community storytelling efforts on the map, so we can can have a visual picture of the spread of storytelling in our city.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

The World Storytelling Day Committee
