VOICING THE STORY: Breathing Life into Your Words

THIS WORKSHOP IS DESIGNED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE STORYTELLING EXPERIENCE

PARTICIPANT MAXIMUM: 15

You will be introduced to several techniques for increasing vocal range and power and then begin an exploration of sound as a physical force and articulation for clarity and impact on your audience.

Exploration of the acting technique “imaging the text” will enrich your storytelling with vivid detail by bringing the story to life in your mind. You will finish with the art of rhetoric and how to apply it to your storytelling.

You are requested to bring hard copies of two stories you would like to work with (it will be beneficial if one of the two is new to you).

Facilitator: Sarah McVie

Sarah has been working as a professional actor for over ten years. She spent five seasons performing at the Stratford Festival of Canada. Since her move to Ottawa in 2006 Sarah has appeared in numerous productions in Ottawa including: Zadie’s Shoes (GCTC), My Name is Rachel Corrie (Vision Theatre) and The Great Frost (NAC). Sarah also works extensively in the voice over industry in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal and offered a workshop to Ottawa StoryTellers in 2008 which was well received.
